But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. (2 Peter 1:5-9)

This passage was important for me artistically when I was struggling to unpack the heart of my artwork’s meaning. In this passage, the given for a follower of Christ is that they have faith. That is the most basic element of being a disciple. To that faith, Peter provides a sequential list of things to add- virtue (the commitment to do right), knowledge, self-control (Temperance in the KJV), perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. As an artist, the fact that I make art is a given. As a believer, the first things I need to add to my faith are virtue and knowledge. The primary elements in my artwork were the line and the drip....

Invoking the healing touch of the Holy Spirit and the divine intervention of the Great Physician, these prayers appeal to a higher power for a person’s recovery, and they also strengthen one’s faith and bring solace during tough times.

Incorporating the healing power of prayer into recovery brings hope. The powerful name of Christ and the diligent work of doctors and medical staff are essential. By turning to prayer, we acknowledge the gracious watch of our Lord. We seek his healing hand to ensure our loved one receives both spiritual and physical healing....
